c'--
ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION:
1. Allowing the possession and consumption of alcohol in City Parks as authorized by the
Director in connection with a City sponsored event is a revision to the current total
prohibition of consumption of alcohol in any City park. This revision would allow for alcohol
to be consumed at cultural events such as the annual Concert in the Park series.
A Sub-committee of the Parks and Recreation Commission, consisting of Commissioners
LaBerge, Joseph and Davis met with Police Chief Carlos Bolanos to discuss allowing
alcohol consumption in the parks. It was agreed that in only culturally related events,
permitted by the Parks and Recreation Director, could alcohol be consumed.
2. As the current ordinance is written, alcohol may be possessed and consumed in only
the following park buildings: Community Activities Building, Fair Oaks Community Center,
Red Morton Recreation Center and the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. As an
administrative change to the ordinance, also changed in this proposed revision is the
addition of the Sandpiper Community Center to the list of park buildings where alcohol may
be allowed.
Alternatives
Decline to change any of the current ordinances and maintain them as currently written or
direct staff to modify the Amendments as appropriate.
Fiscal Impact
The only fiscal impact to adopting these revisions is the cost of having new park rules signs
made and installed. It is expected to cost approximately $ 9,000 to make and install the
100 signs that will need to be replaced throughout the park system. This money would
need to be added to the Department's operating budget from unappropriated reserves.
Hover ete .
