Morales
Executive Director
Son Francisco Redevelopment Agency
San Francisco, CA 94107

Dear Director.

We are happy to write this letter of support for the Son Francisco Boy Trails Extension
through the Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard.

The San Francisco Conservation Corps ECO Center believes that making valuable
contributions to the well being of the community is an essential element in the
development of young people. We believe that active community participation
challenges young people to Ie am important skills ond develop an ethic of social
responsibility. Youth in Action. a program of the SFCC. develops urban middle and high
school youth of diverse backgrounds through academic enrichment activities and
community conservation and restoration projects.

Our current Involvement with the San Francisco Boy Trails Project calls for the installofion
of nearly 300 trees along 6 miles of San Francisco's southeast portion of the tran. The
majority of 'these trees will be planted by our program particIpants and community
volunteers over the course of our summer session (July 7- August 13. 1999).

Through our participation in the SF Bay Trail Project. we further expand our commitment
to providing opportunities for diverse young people to obtain technical. leadership, and
community development skills. In addition. we believe that an extension of the tran
through the shipyard would greatly enhance ifs appeal to the public. thereby increasing
1rail usage. while simultaneously r oring the natural habitats of San Francisco.

Sincerely. /'
~c: .

~ccr/e A.
