The design of this trail is appended to the design of this levee segment to gain
cost efficiency in contract administration. This trail extends from the westem terminus
of the levee, along Steinberger Slough, behind the water storage tank, and will merge
into a future trail system that is part of the proposed hotel development (across a
slough from the southern terminus of Twin Dolphin Drive).
This segment of the levee and the new trail do not encroach into any wetland, but was
included into the Corps. permit because. of heir claim of `Cumulative Impacts'. The.
agency that pays most attention to this segment is BCDC. Plans were sent to the
agencies for review in December of 1999. BCDC responded with a minor comment,
and the correction was made and Contract Documents resubmitted to them for final
approval. Award of this contract rivifl not occur until' the permit extensions° form the `
agencies are finalized.
The project was designed in-house in an effort to minimize the cost. The estimate of
probable cost is $300,000 for the levee project and $90,000 for the Coastal
Conservancy trail, for a total of $390,000.
A complete copy of the Contract Documents is available for review in the Engineering
and Construction office.
Fiscal Impacts
Funds for the levee portion of the project are available in the 1999-2000 Capital
Improvement Program budget under.the Levee Improvement line items of the General
Improvement District 1-64.
