~~...~
The only responsible bidder was Koffler Electrical who is reputable and reliable and staff
is confident that this is a competitive bid. Koffler Electrical stocks a complete line of
replacement motors, parts and guarantees a 24-hr turnaround time on any failed motor.

Having a Purchase Order in place with a qualified repair facility for the repair and/or
replacement of utility motors with a 24-hour completion time will minimize Redwood City's
potential liability.

Alternative
1. Direct staff to solicit individual bids on an as-needed basis. However, this could place
the City in a vulnerable position if one of these motors failed due to the time involved
in soliciting bids. A failure of a sewer pump station could result in a sewage backup and
a potential spill into a storm drain.
2. Direct staff to solicit additional bids from vendors from a broader area.

Fiscal Impact
Funds for the purchase and/or repair of the electric motors were approved and
appropriated by the City Council in the amount of $24,648, partially in the Public Works
Services Fiscal Year 2000/01 operating budget and partially in the Capital Improvement
Program budget.

Peter Ingram
Public Works

Edf{{ {~

City Manager

Attachment: 1.
