y .J ßÇ2 )

tasks included: (1) the revision of the original plans and technical specifications, and (2)
the coordination of the Redwood Shores Parkway Widening Project with the consulting
engineers working for Electronic Arts (Bohley Maley Associates) and Redwood Shores
Shopping Center (Ruggeri-Jensen and Associates). It is noted that these projects were
under construction simultaneously with different contractors. In order to minimize the
disruption of traffic on Redwood Shores Parkway, time was of the essence to complete
the project. Therefore, reviews and approval of the proposals for the additional work
were done at the staff level.

This is not the normal process the staff uses for changes to contracts, but we normally
do not have two projects under construction on either side of the roadway, and both
with deadlines for occupancy. In this case, there was no satisfactory way to handle all
of the these projects, so we chose the method that would keep Electronic Arts and the
Redwood Shores Shopping Center on their schedule.

The additional work has been completed to the satisfaction of Engineering and
Construction, and a detailed cost breakdown and explanation has been submitted by
BKF for $44,598.75. (See attached letter from BKF, dated October 4, 2000).

Fiscal Impacts
The GID Committee had approved the additional work, and funds for these additional
services ($44,598.75). The funds to cover this cost are allocated to the General
Improvement District 1-64 (facility fees paid by developer) for the widening of Redwood
Shores Parkway. Therefore, there are no fiscal impacts to the City, since funding is
provided by General Improvement District 1-64.

~~.~JL X. ù.~
Lowell LW.
