<br />/16 <br /> <br /> <br />! <br /> <br />, , <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Millington. <br /> <br />The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Secretary reported sending annual r~port, signed by all <br />members, to City Council. Copy of same was ordered filed. <br /> <br />New business. <br /> <br />Mr. Argilla and Mr. Morton announced the "Little Olymp- <br />ics" to be held 'the last week in August, for boys and girls between <br />the ages of 7 and 16. Some of the events that will take place are: <br />a track meet, horse shoe tournament, volley ball, basketball, etc. <br />Mr. Argilla will make announcement~ at.meetings of Kiwanis, Lions, <br />Exchange and Native Sons, urging prompt registration and immediate <br />commencement of training by those planning to participate. <br /> <br />Mr. De Armand reported that Redwood City topped the list <br />in San Mateo County for number and diversity of activities carried <br />on during PUblic-Recreation Week: appeared with entertainment at <br />the three local service clUbs: community night at Sequoia Auditor- <br />ium--Redwood City Municipal Band and one hour of dancing by children <br />from dancing classes--300 attendats¡ extra activities at Hawes <br />park¡ inaugaurated swimming classes'at High School pool; boys and <br />girls hiking groups all during week, etc. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Mr. Morton announced that the City of Redwood City, the <br />Fire Department, and the Recreation Department are jointly invest- <br />ing in a Public Address System. <br /> <br />Mr. Morton moved ~hat a committee be appointed to in- <br />vestigate the ~tter of placing signs designating the three p~ay- <br />grounds: Hawes Park, Mezes Plaza and Chestnut Street. Miss Hoenck <br />seconded the motion, which ~as carried unanimously. Chairman Mill- <br />ington appointed Mr. Morton, Mr. Walsh, and Mr. De Armand as a <br />committee of three to look into the matter to determine just what <br />type of sign, the size, and placement of the signs would be most <br />advisable, and to report back to the group at the next meeting. <br /> <br />. -, <br /> <br />Mr. Argilla reported the success of the W. P. A. over- <br />night hikes for boys. The ,boys pay 50~ a piece which covers the <br />entire cost of the outing, including 3 meals. <br /> <br />Members of the Recreation Department and members of the <br />City Council will initi~te_the new barbecue pit at Hawes ~ark with <br />a barbecue to be held Saturday evening, July 23, 1938. Wives, hus- <br />bands, etc., are also invited. <br /> <br />"- <br /> <br />Mr. De Armand announced addition to W. P. A. recreation <br />program of artcraft and handicrart room in recreation department <br />at 828 Jefferson. Reported 40 boys and girls attended on the 12th <br /> <br />-- -..
