The Corridor Plan also meets many of the <br />Redwood Citv Strategic Plan Initiatives, including Community of all Ages, Economic <br />Development, Housing, Transportation, and Public Safety. The following General Plan <br />policies highlight specific priorities related to the Corridor Plan: <br />Policy BE -12.1: Integrate land use and transportation planning and development to <br />transform EI Camino Real to an urban, pedestrian -friendly, and transit -oriented <br />boulevard for residents to live, work, shop and play. <br />Policy BE -12.3: Accommodate the pedestrian in all public and private improvement <br />projects along EI Camino Real. <br />Policy BE -12.4: Enhance the visual character of the EI Camino Real Corridor by public <br />streetscape improvements, including landscaping, coordinated street furniture and <br />fixtures, and upgraded infrastructure. <br />Policy BE -12.5: Provide vibrant public spaces and gathering places along the EI <br />Camino Real Corridor. <br />Policy BE -12.6: Strengthen pedestrian, transit, and bicycle connections to provide <br />convenient connectivity to the Caltrain Station. <br />Policy BE- 26.19: Expand the bicycle system to provide a continuous system within <br />Redwood City by eliminating missing segments. Additionally, provide continuous bicycle <br />facilities, where appropriate, through eliminating parking on one or both sides of the <br />street and/or other roadway modifications. If exclusive bicycle facilities (i.e. Class I or II) <br />are not feasible, provide shared facilities by posting appropriate signs and shared lane <br />markings. <br />In addition, the Corridor Plan is consistent with the recently rezoned mixed use zoning. <br />designations, which call for: <br />• Transforming EI Camino Real into a remarkable, walkable, and exciting corridor, <br />home to a variety of residential and nonresidential uses; <br />• Facilitating a pedestrian -scaled environment with buildings that emphasize active <br />and street -oriented frontages, well -scaled and designed buildings, and engaging <br />outdoor spaces and landscaping; <br />• Providing increased opportunities in Redwood City for residents to live near <br />goods, services, transit, and entertainment; and <br />
