8.B. - Page 16
• Ensuring that consideration and proper transition is provided to adjacent lower -
density residential uses.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND OUTREACH
A notice of public hearing on the Corridor Plan was duly published in the San Mateo
Daily Journal newspaper, posted on the City's website and on the City Hall bulletin
board, and emailed to interested parties 10 days prior to the public hearing.
In addition, the City presented to the following Committees, Commissions, and Groups:
- Chamber of Commerce
- Complete Streets Advisory Committee
- Planning Commission
- Downtown Business Group
- Youth & Teen Advisory Boards
- Peninsula Investment Forum Marketing Meeting
On November 7, 2017, the Planning Commission held a public hearing on the draft
Corridor Plan and provided direction on the following key questions developed by staff:
1. Should the Plan include the goals and priorities (as developed by CAG,
summarized on page 5 of this report) to help evaluate the tradeoffs if strategies
are conflicting?
Yes, the Plan should include the Goals as developed by CAG; however, the
Priorities are redundant and not necessary in the Plan itself. While the Priorities
were useful in helping CAG and staff prepare the Plan, their use in the
implementation is not as critical.
2. Does the Commission support the recommended tradeoff of converting on -street
parking with a protected bike lane with the parking strategies?
Yes, the Commission supports replacing on -street parking with protected bike
lanes and a more creative parking approach that provides the parking elsewhere.
This provides a great opportunity for leadership as a City.
3. Are there any additional strategies or actions that should be considered?
Suggestions included taking a closer look at existing sidewalk conditions and
proactively widening unsafe sections, and exploring ways to create new parks: as
parklets are not sufficient.
