City of Redwood City Statement of Work
UPS Devices -The servers should be protected by surge suppressers and smart UPS's which
provide graceful shutdown in case of power outage. These are included with every server as
proposed. The UPSs provide a minimum of 20 minutes to restore power before they gracefully
shutdown the servers and maintain the integrity of the databases. If backup power generation is
not available, the standard UPS may be increased in size to cover a longer period without
commercial power. The UPSs proposed are from APC, American Power Conversion. APC has
won over 100 industry awards for reliability and innovation. Furthermore, APC UPSs protect
more networks than all other brands combined.
100 Mbps Ethernet Topology - Our network design includes multiple Intel Ethernet 10/100
Auto-Sensing switches and Intel 100Mbps Ethernet hubs. The servers and the clients utilize
100Mbps Ethernet Switches and hubs for maximum throughput to meet your most demanding
performance requirements. Using the switches instead of hubs allows for simultaneous traffic
from workstations to the servers and printing documents from the PDC without interfering with
each other's network traffic. This solution gives the best possible performance for minimal
additional cost. Furthermore, if one of the hubs or switches fails for any reason, the network is
designed so that there are sufficient ports available on the remaining switch(es) and hubs to
accommodate all servers and clients. The Ethernet switches also support optional fiber optic
adapters to allow connectivity to remote locations within a 2 km radius of the primary location
using multimode optical fiber if required. We have not quoted cabling.
Anti-Virus Software - All servers should come equipped with Cheyenne Innoculan anti-virus
software used by Microsoft Corporation for their corporate computer network.
Open file Tape Back-up -The servers come with DAT external Tape backup unit with full
unattended, open file back up capability. This solution allows for backup to occur without
taking the servers down.
Server Redundancy - The servers run the Microsoft Windows NT server operating system
while all the clients run the Microsoft NT workstation operating system. The redundant servers
utilize Octopus High Availability (OctopusHA+) software. This software gives you the high
data availability, immediate access, and minimal recovery time needed to insure continuous
operations in your mission-critical environrnent. The redundancy software captures updates to
source files and immediately mirrors the changes across LANs and WANs to disks on the
backup server. This enables the backup server to assume the identity of one the failed primary
server automatically, while maintaining its original responsibilities—without human
intervention. This is possible because the two redundant servers are connected via a dedicated
100 Mbps link which keeps the data on the secondary server in synchronization with the
primary server at all times so that the data is not lost if, or when, a switchover occurs. This is
our standard mirroring software at this time. We are also testing other products for future
alternatives
Lucent Technoloies Page 6.
