ATTY/ORD.449/ORDINANCE AMENDING MUNICIPAL CODE 72 HOUR & COMMERCIAL VEHICLE <br />REV: 11-14-17 MI <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY DELETING SECTION 20.96.1 AND AMENDING SECTIONS 20.95 <br />AND 20.101 OF DIVISION 1 OF ARTICLE VII OF CHAPTER 20 OF THE <br />REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO PARKING OF <br />VEHICLES <br />WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code Section 22507 authorizes the City of <br />Redwood City (the “City”) to regulate the parking of vehicles on City streets; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 20.95 of Chapter 20, Article VII, Division 1 of the Redwood <br />City Municipal Code prohibits parking of vehicles in the public right of way or a parking lot <br />owned or leased by or under vehicular regulatory jurisdiction of the City for more than <br />seventy-two (72) hours, and deems a vehicle parked if it has not been moved at least <br />two-tenths (0.20) of a mile; and <br />WHEREAS, certain vehicles now have digital odometers and officers cannot <br />determine when such vehicles have moved two-tenths (0.20) of a mile; and <br />WHEREAS, given the change in the odometers of certain vehicles, the City desires <br />to amend Redwood City Municipal Code Section 20.95 so that a vehicle is deemed parked <br />if it has not been moved one vehicle length; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 20.96.1 of Chapter 20, Article VII, Division 1 of the Redwood <br />City Municipal Code prohibits parking of vehicles weighing more than five thousand <br />(5,000) pounds for more than two (2) hours on portions of four streets, Veterans <br />Boulevard, Oddstad Drive, Oddstad Road, and Hansen Way; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 20.101 of Chapter 20, Article VII, Division 1 of the Redwood <br />City Municipal Code prohibits parking of commercial vehicles on any street between 2 <br />a.m. to 5 a.m. and parking of vehicles weighing more than ten thousand (10,000) pounds <br />on any residential street at any time except as necessary to perform a service for a <br />residence; and <br />WHEREAS, changes in parking demand have resulted in a short supply of street <br />parking spaces on City streets; and <br />WHEREAS, commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than <br />eight thousand (8,000) pounds may be used for personal purposes, in addition to or in <br />lieu of commercial purposes; and <br /> <br />6.4.A. - Page 7
