Commissioner Sipes presented ideas for and map of a suggested
bicycle Trail through City, as a possible item for inclusion in
capital outlay requests. Mr. Sipes showed how the route could
join all' major parks and schools by. using streets which are off
main thoroughfares and which by signs or street stenciling for
route would alert motorists that streets were principally used
by bicyclists; he said that there are 20,000 bicycles registered
in the City; that other cities have developed such bicycle "trails"
to encourage safety to' riders; and asked if the trail idea was
accepted by the Commission that he would like the privilege of
making the presentation to the Traffic Bureau and the City.

On MOTION of Jasper Sipes, seconded by Doris Thompson, it was
recommended that a letter be written to City Manager Ullrich
presenting the Bicycle Trail idea and asking that it be referred
to the Traffic Bureau for consideration' and that Chairman Beals
and Commissioner Sipes be notified when the matter would be con-
sidered by the Traffic Bureau so that they could personally ,make
the presentation. Passed. (2-21-67)
