28 , , It is recommended that the Recreation Department cut down on summer activity programs such as Little League, softball programs" etc8' so that the Park Department can have adequate time to pre- pare fields and park areas with the limited staff available in , the Department for overall park work. It is also recommended that, with funding for additional park help such a critical problem, it may well be later recommended that programs such as Little League, softball, etc., be discontinued until such time as it is possible to prepare for those programs without disregarding other park duties. Commissioner Morgan moved to accept the recommendations of the Sub~committee, seconded by Commissioner Coffis, and passed un- animously, Commissioner Stuart being noted absent. Commissioner Whitmore noted that he had been told that Council does not see initial budget requests - i.e., commission rec~ ommendations - until after staff review. Commissioner Thompson presented the following recommendation from the Sub-committee: It is recommended that a Commission committee be appointed to meet with City Manager Ullrich to discuss preparation of the budget and Park & Recreation Commission involvement in its preparation. Chairman Knecht appointed Commissioners Whitmore and Thompson and himself to meet with City Manager Ullrich. Commissioner Thompson noted a need for recreation summer programs in the Fair Oaks area - Garfield School, Fair Oaks School, etc., and s,aid estimated, cost was $2,000 and noted that the fallowing recommendation is made by the Sub-committee: ','.
