191

c.

Park & Linden, '
There was a report by Ralph Wallulis, 475 Redwood Avenue, RedwoĊCity,
who is the chairman of the Canada College group. The property-has been
cleared off, and they have a model that has been accepted by the steer-
ing committee ang by the Park Department showing shrubs and plants at
the entrances, grass and sand, and the use of flowers or geraniums on
the edges. They were going to use in the sandbox areas an outline of
railroad ties and telephone poles with a play structure constructed
in the middle with a slide going down. The platform, about 4 feet
higQ, would simulate a ship at sea. It would have picnic area and
benches on each~side. The cost was really very nominal from their
point of view. The dimension of the park is 155x48x137x28x22x64. It
is a little bit larger than when presented 3 months ago. They have
started a bank account at Wells Fargo under the name "Canada Mîni Park
Fund" and are looking for any funds that might be possible.

There was a motion to endorse the concept and plans as presented and
recommended that the plan be instituted immediately by the park and
recreation staff by Dorothea Terrill. Seconded by Jim Knecht. Vote:

.
Unan1mous.

d. Mîddlefield & Theatre
Chairman Knecht had a meeting with Bill Paulson, Pasco Balzarini,
Jack Swenson, and Jack Stuart, and the committee of the Canada College
group under Mr. Swenson. They presented a model and it had some- basic
changes from the original plan as shown in the area... It was fenced
off and set up in such a way that there would be a sandbox designed
and it would be contoured with a planter, area with flowers and benches
around it which people could lunch and sit. There was some concern
relative to the play tower and they have now found another place for
that, but they are to build a new item for the center of the." play area.

There was a motion entered by Mr.'Knecht that the commission accept
this plan and give approval to'the concept and recommend to council
that its approval be made immediately. This was seconded by Mr.
Schenck. Unanimous vote.

e . Other s
Nothing at this moment.

II.

Model Airplane Fields

Mr. Balzarini reported on the renovation of Zimmerman Field. It
would be 4 months before it would be ready for use. They were going
to seen it and prepare it. Expected it to be ready by middle of August.

nThere was some discussion on the Condor Legion, but that the letter
from Mr. Ullrich and City Attorney had felt that caution was due on
the school property and it was inappropriate for the Condor Legion
to use this property.

,--,

- -- - ~-~.~~~--.n___.n- - -~._---- --_n_nn._._. ~-_..- ___n_. ---- -". .... - -- __n_..- ----~---_...~ . -- ..._.n.~ n
