220

REPORTS

ITEM 1 - Design & Development Committee

Written report was submitted. Commissioner Weintraub expressed her appreciation for
the many, many hours Mr. Weeks had spent with her committee.

The Design & Development Committee's orientation meeting with Mobil Oil Estates
representatives was discussed. The various concepts being considered for the Red-
wood Shores development was discussed. It was pointed out that the linear park
theme would be considered for reducing maintenance yet continue to enhance the
development. The need for restrooms at the private beach was discussed. It
was felt that the preliminary concepts being developed were in keeping with current
theme and would result in good parks development.

"
..

ITEM 2 - Commission Relations Committee

Commissioner Pound, Committee Chairman, gave the report. An expense account for
the Commissioners was discussed and it was suggested that they be provided with
some sort of an expense account to cover mileage, babysitting costs, etc. It was
brought out that no other Commission in Redwood City maintained expense accounts
but there are other cities that do. It was determined that further information
would be assembled on how other Commissions handle this problem before having
further discussions.

Commissioner Pound discussed an attendance clause to be considered as part of the
Commission's ordinance. The Committee added this to their scope of work because
they felt it was important to the entire Commission to have each Commissioner
present at all meetings and to be present for the entire meeting. This will be
considered along withþther changes in the ordinance now under study by the Committee.
Wi_~~_r~gard to Committee meetings, Commissioner Weintraub suggested that everyone note
tbe meeting times and to be there without having to be called and reminded.

With regard to Liaison Appoincnents to other City Commissions and Committees, it was
stated in the Commission Relations Committee report that, "...(Commissioners) would
be expected to attend an occasional meeting..." and Commissioner Guida requested clar-
ification of the word "occasional." He felt it was an excellent idea to attend meetings
in which a commissioner had an interest, but otherwise there were far too many meetings
held for a Commissioner to attend all. It was clarified that only those meetings that
might be of particular importance to a committee or commissioner should be attended.

Chariman Schenck feels that it is important that Commissioners attend local events so
that the public can become aware of who the Commissioners are. Mr. Weeks mentioned a
calendar of events would be prepared from which the Commissioners could be scheduled
to attend certain events.

Regarding the receipt of minutes from all other Commissions, it was suggested that rather
than all Commissioners receiving all the minutes of the various other éommissions,
that each Commissioner be appointed to receive Minutes from one of the other Commissions.
These minutes could then be reviewed by each individual commissioner and a report made
of pertinent data at the following Parks ~ Recreation Commission meeting. This is to
be discussed further prior~o final decision.

In regard to the Commission Relations Committee report, it was determined that an ab-
sentee or attendance clause would be studied further for inclusion in the Parks ~
Recreation Commission Ordinance, as well as the deletion of the office of Secretary.

The committee was requested to prepare drafts of these additions and deletions for fur-
ther consideration by the Commission.

.. -.....-. ..--.------.

--~-

.
