222

Erogr alllD.ini.. Fo~i t t~~

Chairman Schenck gave a verbal report regarding the Programming Committee which Chair-
man Schenck is temporarily chairing. Discussion was held regarding utilization of exist-
ing community resources and facilities. For example, using the Y.M.C.A. as an agency
in cooperation with the Recreation Center. The Committee fou~d six areas in which they
could work together. The Y.M.C.A. swimming pool was mentioned and it was suggested
that it be opened year round-apart time through the Parks & Recreation Deparbment and
the remainder through the Y.M.C.A. A card could be provided through the Parks & Re-
creation Department whereby residents could show this card at the Y.M.C.A. and pay' the
same price they were paying through the Parks & Recreation pools. This proposal, as
well as others suggested, will be studied for further determination by the Program Com-
mittee.

Continuation of year round Sailing Classes was discussed. Sequoia Yacht Club was sug-
gested as an alternative. Commissioner W~intraub stated that the Yacht Club indicated
they were interested in getting together with regard to the sailing program. This
will be checked into by the staff. There is a 'possibility of joint programming.

MONTHLY REPORTS

r r ~ J

Construction is well underway at Red Morton Community Park. Some concern was expressed
by the Forty Niners with respect to our treatment of the area. The fence problem has
been resolved temporarily. Final solution for pe~enent portable fencing is being
studled.

The problem of restricting traffic into the Red Morton Comminity Park during the con-
struction period was discussed. It was pointed out khat this was a responsibility of
the contractor tQ protect his work. It was felt that he would take rather definite steps
as the work proceéded. It was pointed out that a flyer was made up by the staff and
distributed to all the baseball groups using the area, as well as to the spectators
pointing"out the necessity of parking in the parking lots rather than in the construction
area. As the construction nears completion, the Department will erect adequate bar-
ricades in order to permanently restrict traffic from the park area.

With regard to Stulsaft Park, the consultant is now involved in the preparation of pre-
liminary studies'. The Design &. Development committee will be called into discussions
of these studies when the preliminary sketches are completed. The Commission and neigh-
borhood input will then be scheduled.

I,t was moved by Commissioner Guida, seconded by Conmissioner Pound tha t the reports
be accepted; motion carried.

-,. .' ,-,
, , ,
The legal ramifications, concerni~g, the condemnation pro~edures underway at Canyon Park,
together with right-of-access over the dedicated street through the park, was discussed.
It was pointed out that these matters are being researched by the staff in hopes of
maximizing any data in the planning process for the park.

- - , .

ROUND TABLE

1 1 J l

Chairman Schenck pointed out that there appeared to be two pieces of property for sale
within the long range expansion program of Red Morton Community Park. These mentioned
that the property immediately south of the Veterans Memorial Building may also be for
sale. A motion was made by Commissioner Weintraub, seconded by Commismoner Pound,
that the properties be investigated and to express the Commission's wish for the pur-

chase of this property if at all possible. The motion carried.
