227

ROUND TABLE

The question of the County bike trail system was raised. It was pointed out that the
Commission had reviewed the bike trail system that was being proposed by the County
Parks ~ Recreation Department several months ago. It was indicated at that time that
the proposed bikeway system was commsurate with the feelings of the Commission. It
had been returned to the County with the Commission's comments. It was reported to the
Commission that the bikeway system in Redwood City was being considered as a part of
the Transportation Element of the General Plan which is currently under study. This
bikeway system will be coordinated with the total County system. It was felt that the
Commission would have an opportunity to review the proposals in the Transportation
Element at the appropriate time so as to provide input into the bikeway system plan.

A Municipal Golf Course was discussed. Commissioner Knecht felt a muni-golf course
should be located in Redwood Shores. He suggested it was an ideal place for a golf
course and should be located right at the end of Whipple. It was stated that the Water-
front Committee will include this in a major portion of^their study.

It was moved by Commissioner Knecht, seconded by Commissioner Guida, that a letter be
written on behalf of the Commission expressing its appreciation and thanks to Sylvester
Duplessis and its regret that he is leaving the City of Redwood City.

Ayes:

Commissioner Guida
Commissioner Knecht
Commissioner Pound
Chairman Schenck
Commissioner Weintraub

Nays:

None

Absent:

Commissioner Haynes

Mr. Weeks info~ed the Commission that he will be out of the City from September 28
through October 9 attending the National Parks ~ Recreation Congress in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Weeks also reported to the Commission that an initial meeting was held with repre-
sentatives of the Redwood Shores Home Owners Association, the Sailing Association,
Mobil Oil Estates, the Police Deparbnent, the City Attorney's office, and the Public
Works Department concerning mutual public areas in Redwood Shores. It was determined
that a series of follow-up meetings would be held in order to draft mutually agreeable
rules and regulations regarding this use. Upon completion of this draft, a community
meeting will be held with the residents of Redwood Shores in order to receive their
suggestions and input so as to arrive at acceptable rules and regulations for public
use of the area.

MATTERS FROM THE AUDIENCE

Mr. Wolf, 263 Jackson Street, requested pe~ission to speak to the Commission. He
requested information relative to the construction work in the vicinity of the caboose
and commented on the abuse that the caboose was receiving. It was indicated to Mr.
Wolf that the area in the vicinity of the caboose was a part of the current construc-
tion of Community Park and would be re-established at the conclusion of the construction.
It was further pointed out that continual efforts are made to obliterate inappropriate
graffiti from the caboose; however, manintenace crews find this to be a most difficult
problem with which to cope.

--- _.._._-_.__._._-_.._-_.--..._..._._..--...._-~- -.--.-..---.-

..---.---.-..---- -...-...----. -----...-. .-.-- ---- .
