: '24

Mr. Weeks indicated that the report was still under study and that input was
being received from the Board of Directors of the PYC and, upon full comple-
tion of the report, it will be forwarded to the City Manager and, undoubtedly,
to the City Council. In the meant~e, it was felt that the budgeting of the
PYC would simply continue its present status until such time as other decisions
were made relative to the future relationships between the City and the PYC.

There being no further discussion, a vote was called.

Nays:

1 - Commissioner Guida

Ayes: 4 - Commissioners Schenck, Weintraub, Pound, Knecht

Motion carried.

(

It was suggested that the Parks & Recreation Commission send
a representative to the budget sessions on May 11. Chairman
Guida requested, if time allowed and if Commissioner Knecht
was available to attend the meeting, that he be the repre-
sentative and carry the Commission's concern to the City
Council and the City Manager. Commissioner Knecht accepted
and was so appointed. Chairman Guida expressed his pleasure
in the completeness of the Parks & Recreation Department
report on the PYC subprogram

MATTERS FROM THE AUDIENCE

Mr. Jack Castle requested clarification on what the outcome would be if the
$12,000 would be deleted from the PYC budget. Commissioner Knecht stated that
the Commission was opposed to the full-time directorship of the PYC and salary
because there is no control on what the Director does. It was p9inted out that
this was a responsibility of the PYC as agreed upon in the 1973-74 budget
approval.

Commissioner Schenck mentioned that there are very successful, programs offered
that are self-sustaining. These do not need a director. The feeling of the
Commission is that the programs that are self-sustaining will continue with
or without the help of the Parks & Recreation Department.

ROUND TABLE

Commissioner Schenck mentioned that he felt it was a good idea to add people to
the subcommittees from the community; however, he requested that the Chairman of
the subcommittee be notified before any appointments are made.

Chairman Guida felt this was an excellent suggestion. He would like to add one
citizen to every subcommittee. He requested that the subcommittees suggest
citizens to serve on their committees. He also requested that those citizens
appointed receive complete copies of the Parks & Recreation Commission agenda
and minutes. Commissioner Weintraub suggested that the Commission Relations
Committee take this under consideration.

Commissioner Weintraub reported that on April 25 she attended the Downtown meeting
as requested to do so by Chairman Guida as a liaison between the Commission and
the Downtown Committee. She indicated that she had nothing appropriate to report
at this time but felt someone from the Commission should continue to attend this
meeting.

Chairman Guida requested that Commissioner Weintraub continue to

att~ the meetmgs m t~ mter~ until a forælletter could be s~t to the
City Manager requesting this.

. ~
¡
