,=. -~. ~,~ 2 9

notice failed to be printed. However, the schools made the announcement in
their areas and this resulted in twenty~two citizens attending the first
meeting and eighteen attending the second meeting. The Department was
pleased with the quality input they received from the citizens even though
there was small attendance.

REPORTS

REPORT ITEM 1 - Community Park Commit~ee Re~ort

Commissioner Schenck added that in the design of the park, wheelchair ramps
should be considered at the various access ways into the park. He suggested
these ramps be added, especially near Valöta Road.

Mr. Weeks mentioned that he had already spoken to the Public Works Department
about this and efforts will be made to provide these ramps.

Chairman Guida stated that there are also now restroom requirements for wheel-
chairs.

MOTION:

Commissioner Schenck moved to make this additional verbal
report a part of the original Community Park Report,
seconded by Commissioner Pound.

The Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.

REPORT ITEM 2 - Commission Relations Commi,t.~ee Report

Commissioner Pound reported that many of the items discussed at the Committee
meeting will be items to be inserted in the Commissioners' Manual. She also
mentioned that the PRIDE Waterfront Month is nearing and the weekend of
June 15 will be an opportune t~e for the Commissioners to become involved
and make contact with the public.

Bill Paulson mentioned that the Department's Fishing Derby will be held with
a Tam Sawyer and Becky Thatcher Costume Contest. He mentioned that he will
bring twenty or so brochures and name tags. Commissioners Weintraub, Pound,
and Guida will be present.

Commissioner Pound mentioned that June 22 focuses on Redwood Shores and
perhaps the Commissioners would like to attend that day. They will be selling
hot dogs, hamburgers, a steak dinner and some of the animals from Marine World
will be there. Commissioners Schenck and Pound will be present on June 22.

Commissioner Pound discussed the first neighborhood council meeting to be
initiated in the Redwood Shores area. The park facilities, lagoons, recrea-
tion programs, etc., will be discussed. It is a meeting with the staff and
the community. It is basically to initiate a dialogue with the citizens of
Redwood Shores in their own "back yard" to receive direct input about the
services being offered, what the Department is doing, why, etc. She
explained that the object was to encourage face-to-face input from the
community. This meeting will be held July 2,1974, at 7:30 p.m. at
Commissioner Pound's home. The objective is to establish this type of
communication in several areas throughout the City. .
