. -

34

REPORT ITEM 4 - MonLthly Reports

A. ~artmep.lt Mopth1y Reports

Commissioner Schenck asked about the dedication of Community. Park. Mr.
Weeks stated that he had talked to the City Manager and had indicated
to him that the Committee's thought would be to wait, if possible,
until after the second phase of development before the dedication was
made. The City Manager concurred with this suggestion. In the mean-
t~e, it was suggested that when the contract is awarded for second
phase development that a ribbon cutting be held to end the first phase.

Chairman Guida mentioned that the Minutes stated the initial design
of Canyon Park would be underway by the end of July and he was
interested in knowing if this was on schedule. Mr. Weeks stated that
the contract had been signed and in reality was underway. The engineering
data is being prepared by the Public Works Department.

It was indicated that since Sequoia High School pool was losing 10,000
gallons of water per day, the pool had been closed. Community Pool
has been opened Thursday evenings and Hoover Pool has been opened Monday
through Friday daily and evenings (12:30 noon to 8:00 p.m.) to help
carry the extra sw~ing traffic. With Hoover Pool opened during the
evenings, the public is being better served in that area and it is
hoped that the vandalism will be curtailed.

Mr. Weeks mentioned the excellent cooperation received from Pacific
Pump Company. Hoover Pool was back in operation in half the time
est~ated. Mr. Paulson also thanked Commissioner Schenck and the
YMCA for providing two lifeguards who are presently working evenings
at Hoover Pool. Commissioner Schenck stated that he appreciated the
opportunity for the YMCA to participate. His goal, he stated, has
always been to have agencies working together to better serve the
public.

Wilderness Camp was discussed. First camp enrollment was about twelve
participants. Commissioner Rollins felt that since the program was
such an excellent one and the camp so beautiful, that full enrollment
should be stressed if possible. He felt all children should have the
opportunity of attending camp and suggested contacting the Little
League organizations in an effort to have them attend in teams.
Chairman Guida offered to send the Pop Warner list of names to Bill
Paulson in order that these Little Leaguers may be contacted.

The name "Wilderness Camp" was discussed. Commissioner Rollins
suggested that the name "wilderness" might frighten some of the
younger from attending and he suggested naming the camp "Fun Time
Camp" or something similar. Commissioner Schenck and Commissioner
Pound felt the name "wilderness" fit the description of the camp.
Mr. Weeks mentioned that it was not the intent to mislead anyone.
Forest Camp was also suggested as an alternative. Commissioner
Pound felt the name "wilderness" was appropriate.

MOTION:

Commissioner Schenck moved that the Department Monthly Reports
be accepted as written, seconded by Commissioner Pound.

The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.

------_..._~~-~-----_'___'m" ._.. d._,."_- ,-, -" -- ",'" ..." , ',' " , .... -".." - .,-,--,-" -,_..,-_. ,-, -~_..- - --- --.- "-.------~----"--"-"'-'-"'-"----'--'-'-'~.-----'~--'-~-"~-~-,._--,----,.,--
