Review 9f Landscape Plan for Downtown Içrovement <br /> <br /> <br />MI. Whitson was introduced and he indicated that the Downtown Improvement Plan <br />'had obtained the Council's approval for the overall concept. The development <br />is now in its first phase which includes the east and west entries. The theme <br />is a "low key" historical-recall theme but also includes some contemporary <br />architecture. MI. Whitson described the landscape plan for the area as well <br />as the street furnishing and fixtures. Chairperson Weintraub indicated the <br />Commission's appreciation for the opportunity to review the plan. She thanked <br />Mr. Whitson for the presentation. <br /> <br />MOTION: <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />Commissioner Schenck moved to accept the Downtown Improvement <br />Plan as presented, seconded by Commissioner Rollins. <br /> <br />The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM 3. Discussion of County Court HouseT Disposition <br /> <br />George Dragan, Chairman of the Civic Cultural Commission, was introduced. <br />Mr. Dragan indicated that the Civic Cultural Commission had had a meeting <br />and had concurred in requesting that the County Court House be restored <br />and used as a cultural center. Mr. Dragan requested on behalf of the <br />Cultural Commission that the Parks & Recreation Commission support their <br />recommendation. Various uses of the court house were discussed. There <br />was some concern relative to the Parks & Recreation Commission's role in <br />the matter of preservation. It was pointed out that the Commission had <br />shown an interest, in the historical preservation program which was being <br />launched by the City as well as the restoration program of the downtown <br />area and that this interest, together with the coordination of future <br />programs with the Civic Cultural Commission as well as their concern with <br />the aesthetics of the City would more than qualify the Commission for a <br />cooperative effort with the Civic Cultural Commission relative to this <br />matter. <br /> <br />MOTION: <br /> <br />Commissioner Rollins moved that the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission recommend to the City Council that they are <br />in support of the Civic Cultural Commission's recommenda- <br />tion and that steps be taken to preserve and restore the <br />County Court House, seconded by Commissioner Knecht. <br /> <br /> <br />The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> <br />REPORTS <br /> <br />REPORT ITEM 1 - Community Park Committee <br /> <br />Commissioner Schenck mentioned briefly that the signing for the park was <br />not finalized as yet. Mr. Weeks indicated that the consultant would be <br />meeting with the committee .to decide this issue. <br /> <br />
