He was <br />concerned that if the plan permitted housing to be built along the shore- <br />line, the sáiling craft would be blanketed from the wind by the housing. <br />He also expressed concern:that the plan continued to show the bridge <br />crossing the lagoon area in the westerly portion of the inland waterway. <br />He indicated this structure would significantly reduce the recreation <br />potential of the waterway in this area and, therefore, the bridge should <br />be directed around the waterway rather than across it. <br /> <br />~". <br /> <br />Chairman Knecht thanked Mr. Smith for a thorough and informational pre- <br />sen ta ti on. <br /> <br /> <br />It was the feeling of several Commissioners that they were unprepared <br />to vote on the matter at this time and that they would also like to <br />personally tour the area in question. In that the Planning Commission <br />requested the Parks & Recreation Commission's comments before the <br />Planning Commission meeting of June 17, it was suggested by Commissioner <br />Weintraub that an Adjourned Meeting be called Monday, June 16 at 4:30 PM <br />at the Mobil Oil Offices (350 Marine World Parkway) to discuss the matter, <br />tour the area in question, and arrive at a recommendation for the Planning <br />Commission before their June 17 meeting. <br /> <br />A short recess was called at 9:55 PM. <br /> <br />The meeting readjourned at 10:00 PM. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM 2 - Disc~ssion of Budget Hearings <br /> <br />Mr. Weeks indicated that the budget hearings were now complete and that <br />the Parks & Recreation Department budget received cuts in the Capital <br />Improvement Program and was directed to reduce the cost of the adult sports <br />programs by making the programs self-sustaining. Funds were provided for <br />the mailing of the program brochure. The Capi tal Improvement Program <br />reduction removed approximately $200,000 from the proposed phase three <br />construction of Red Morton Community Park. The construction of the <br />Dickey Street parking area and the restroom proposed to be constructed <br />near the bocci ball courts and baseball diamonds were approved. The <br />second phase of construction for Mezes Park and the first phase of con- <br />struction of Palm Park were approved. <br /> <br />A complete program review was prepared for the City Council- which described <br />the major recreation and maintenance programs of the Department together <br />with their cost and the impact resulting to the community if reductions <br />were made in the programs. Additionally, a description of each Capital <br />Improvement Program was also furnished in order to assist the Council in <br />their decisions relative to the park improvement program. <br /> <br />With respect to the Marina, it was determined that the maintenance costs <br />of the police boat would be funded by the Marina Fund and removed from <br />the General Fund. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />. . <br />
