Mr. Singer explained how the various suggestions
received from the public meeting were incorporated into the plan. For
example, the play area was centered into the park to a greater degree in
order to separate it from the adjacent residents. Additionally, an area
was shown for future restroom facilities; however, initial construction
would not include this structure. The access walks were also adjusted in
order to fit the new play area location. The plan met the approval of the.
Committee.

The Design & Development Committee meeting on May 23,1975 dealt with the
detailed cost estimate for the bocci ball court structure. The Public Works
Department had forwarded to the staff the detail estimates for the selected
structure for the project for examination by the Committee. The estimate
had increased from $9,098 to $23,876. This included the contingency, the
contractor's profit, an inflationary item, and the design and engineering
costs. The Committee felt that this cost was exorbitant for such a structure
of limited use, unless its oonstruction would be shared by private sources.
Several options were discussed by the Committee such as funding from civic
organizations, private contributions, or donated labor. The Committee felt
that additional options should be examined in order to ascertain whether or
not a different type of prefabricated structure could be erected at much
less cost. In the meantime, it was a recommendation of the Committee to
defer construction at this time pending further investigation of a structure
which could possibly be built within the originally conceived $10,000
estimate.

Upon the completion of the report by the Committee, the following action
wa s taken:

MOTION:

Commissioner Weintraub moved, seconded by Commissioner Wilson,
that on the basis of the latest prohibitive cost estimates for
the bocci ball court structu~e, that the structure as depicted
in Plan II sketches not be built by the City of Redwood City.

The motion carried -unanimously by voice vote.

Mr. Weeks indicated to the Commission that he would continue to work with
the Public Works Department in order to attempt to arrive at a structure
which could be built within the proposed budget. He also indicated he
would discuss this matter with the representatives of the bocci ball
players.

The Design & Development Committee also reported that an initial meeting
was held June 10,1975 with representatives of the Committee for Natural
Stulsaft. The general philosophy and background for the development of
Stulsaft Park was discussed with these representatives and the major
elements in the approved General Plan for the park were pointed out and
discussed. It was found that the mai-n objectives of the Committee for
Natural Stulsaft and the objectives of the long range plan were nearly
