-~.~. ~115

It was concluded that an area would remain a flat turf area that could be
utilized for volleyball and various other similar types of activities if the need
presents itself. The courts will be palnned for but not proposed in the first phase
of development. There is the possibility that picnic tables and bench areas could
be added, but this would be determined by public reaction in that this area is very
close to residences. If there is a demand for tables and benches and if it is found
to be a compatible activity, they can be added at a later date.

The temporary dike area was briefly discussed. If the land in that vicinity should
convert into residential homes and park areas, the dikes would be removed and the
park extended to the east. This is being proposed in the new General Plan for
Redwood Shores.

In the Dolphin Area II, it has been proposed to build two tennis courts, lighted, with
pedestrian access as well as a tot lot which will be designed to take care of those
children belonging to the tennis players (mothers with young children). There will
also be seating areas near the courts.

In the Marlin II Park area, the plan is to develop a broader scope of services. There
is also considerable open space that can be used for lawn-type games. Entrance into the
park will be off Tiller Drive. The restroom, a check-in/check~out facility, and a
patio area which will accommodate recreation supervision for games, will also be
located in this area. There is a Fire Circle proposed farther into the park which
will have seating. This area can be used for small meetings, recreation activities, skits,
drama, boy and girl scout groups, family groups, etc.

The area will also contain a few picnic sites. Two tennis courts are proposed, together
with multi-purpose game courts. The park is not large enough to provide baseball
diamonds.

Mr. Weeks explained that it was the hope of the Department to put the construction
phases of the four areas together in one package for one contract. The cost to complete
all areas is approximately $350,000. Funds are insufficient to complete all areas;
therefore, the construction work will be phased. It was pointed out that between
$70,000.,and $75,000 must be put into salt water intrusion protection (drainage system
underground). This is essential in order to assure success in growing plant material.

Mr.Weeks mentioned that upon Council approval, bids will be called for possibly by
the latter part of January or the first part of February 1976. If so, construction
should be completed by the latter part of May 1976.

MOTION:

Commissioner Rollins moved to accept.. the General Site Plan
for Dolphin Parks I, II, and III and Marlin Park II as pre-
sented, seconded by Commissioner Schlesinger. The motion
carried unanimously by voice vote.

Chairman Knecht called a fifteen minute recess at 9:15 PM. The meeting reconvened
at 9:20 PM.

AGENDA ITEM 3 - Piscussion of D~tße.~ f~oAr .Council-Commi~sion Combined MeetinL

Mr. Weeks mentioned that in talking with the Council, they suggested that the Commission
try to arrive at a time that might be satisfactory after the latter part of October. .
Mr. Weeks suggested November 17 or November 24 as possible meeting dates. The Commission
ag~eed on November 17 and it was the consensus that park development standards will be the
topic for discussion.
