<br />l " <br /> <br />'" <br /> <br />- 3 - <br /> <br />out that two (2) vacant park areas on the east side of Shell Parkway have <br />reversionary clauses in the conveyance documents signed by the City of <br />Redwood City and then Redwood Shores, Inc. <br /> <br />Discussion continued with a brief presentation being made by Greenba;r <br />Development Company, San Jose, about the proposed land transfer and the <br />additional comments from the audience. <br /> <br />After hearing from the general public, the Commission discussed the <br />proposal Commissioner Slusser suggested "that there was an absolute need <br />for this type of recreational activity and that we should consider <br />relocating or reallocating this type of activityll. <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis stated IIthat he recognized the need for this type of <br />recreational facility and the City should establish a committee to look <br />into this matter". Commissioner Nordness indicated IIthat a committee' <br />should be established to look into this matter'and that the committee <br />should be made up of members from the Park and Recreation Commission, golf <br />club members, Planning Çommission, city staff as well as representatives <br />from Redwood Shores Properties, Inc.". Chairperson Howard reiterated to <br />the audience IIthat the Park and Recreation Commission doesn1t have <br />jurisdiction over the property in questionll. <br /> <br />After a short discussion Commissioner Mortensen made the following motions <br />that the Commission go on record to not support the swap of parkland, <br />however, a committee be established to extend the deadline and find an <br />alternate site. Commissioner Nordness second the motion. <br /> <br />In discussing the motion, Commissioner Swope IIsuggested that the motion be <br />divided into two motions since she objected to having it as one motionll. <br />After some discussion, Commissioner Swope made the motion lito not support <br />the land swap of parklqnds for the driving rangell. The motion was seconded <br />by Commissioner Nordness. The motion was approved by voice vote of 6 yes <br />and no no's. Commissioner Mortensen then made a motion lito develop a <br />sub-committee of interested parties to look into the possibility of <br />extending the current closure deadline for the driving range and to examine <br />other alternatives i.e. relocating, purchasing or condemning other <br />properties suitable for a driving rangell. Commissioner Nordness seconded <br />the motion and the Commission voted 6-0 to approve the proposal and forward <br />the recommendation to the City Council. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />ITEM I - REDWOOD SHORES TENNIS CLUB <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Charles DePew of the Redwood Shores Tennis Club gave the Commission a <br />brief overview of the tennis club and its activities at Redwood Shores. In <br />a letter written by Mr. DePew, a request was made to utilize most of the <br />public tennis courts on an exclusive basis for tennis club tournaments <br />approximately 8-9 times/year. Discussion followed about the liability <br />insurance needed by the tennis club, tournament schedules and development <br />of additional public tennis courts within the Redwood Shores area. <br />Commissioner Swope made the following motion Uthat the Redwood Shores <br />Tennis Club be allowed to host tournaments at the public tennis facilities <br />within Redwood Shores providing that they don1t exceed 8-9 Saturday dates <br /> <br />
