' <br />-Dogs owners have no choice but to break the law because there is no place <br />to bring your dog. <br />-Provisions need to be made for responsible dog owners. <br />-Allowing dogs on leash will cost the City $0. <br />-SamTrans has cyclone fencing available if needed to fence off an area. <br />-San Bruno & Foster City sites are well maintained facilities. <br />-San Carlos site is located on too steep a slope; foxtails and ticks are <br />prevalent at that site. <br />-If you are going to develop a site for dogs, do it right the first time. <br />-People who run their dogs on the salt flats have dogs that are more prone to <br />ear infections and foxtails. <br />-Parks & Recreation Department has sponsored weekly dog obedience training <br />classes for over 20 years. Current enrollment is 90 dogs per week. <br />No place for necessary practice. <br />-Current ordinances not enforced, therefore only punishes responsible, <br />law abiding residents. <br />-Dog run and dog training areas need to be separate. <br />-There are a minimum of 15,000 dogs in Redwood City (per County Animal <br />Control) <br /> <br />An informal vote taken of the people attending revealed the following <br />results: <br /> <br />-Over 50% of the people attending found out about this evening1s meeting <br />through a friend or neighbor. <br />-99% of the people attending were dog owners. <br />-10% of people were concerned about safety in allowing dogs in the parks. <br />-20% were concerned about dog droppings in the parks. <br />-Over 50% of the people wanted to be able to let their dogs off leash. <br />-30% of the people wanted a dog training area in the park(s). <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis asked that the attendees vote for a first choice on the <br />following suggestions: <br /> <br />a) Specified parks allowing dogs on leash <br />b) Fenced Dog Run - off leash <br />c) Open area for dogs - off leash <br />d) Specified Park for dog obedience training <br />e) Repeal City ordinance to allow dogs in all <br />parks and to follow San Mateo County laws <br />and peoper scooper ordinance <br />Commissioner Davis thanked everyone for attending this meeting and also for <br />their ideas and comments.
