The Commissioners discussed <br />working with school districts to use youth in community service work. <br />Supervisor Oliver also mentioned working with the surrounding business <br />community to see how they could assist with senior programs. <br /> <br />Superintendent Hartman said she is amazed at the talented people who continue <br />to come to the Center to donate their services, cash and materials and felt <br />this was a tribute to Supervisors Kucala and Oliver and the wonderful job <br />they are doing at the Center. ' <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - Union Cemetery Update <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope said she has spoken to Peak & Associates but their <br />proposal has not yet been received. The laser survey and map is complete and <br />the next step is to get the RFP approved by the City Council. Once the RFP <br />is approved, it will take the consultant 1-2 months to complete the work and <br />another month to write up the report. Rather than wait for the next <br />Commission meeting, a copy of the proposal will be sent to each Commissioner <br />for their review and comments, after which time it will be sent to the City <br />Council for approval. <br /> <br />The following items were taken out of order: <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - P&R Special Meeting <br /> <br />Chairperson Slusser explained that after discussion with Director Griffiths, <br />it was suggested that the Special P&R Meeting to be held on Saturday, <br />March 28 be cancelled due to a change in schedule. He said that the City <br />Council would not be able to meet with the Commission on May 4 because of a <br />Study Session scheduled on that date with the Youth Services Commission. He <br />also announced that the May 18 City Council meeting would be a public hearing <br />with the Belmont School District regarding the Redwood Shores school site <br />proposal. <br /> <br />Chairperson Slusser explained that staff is currently putting together the <br />Request for Proposal (RFP) for the impact and feasibility study for the new <br />Red Morton Center~ and the Commission will have an opportunity to review the <br />draft RFP prior to going to the City Council for formal approval. He also <br />stated that 1-2 Commissioners would be needed to participate in the review <br />and selection of the firm to complete the RFP. Director Griffiths <br />anticipates that the draft would be completed by mid-April, formally approved <br />by the City Council in May, and selection could occur in June if all things <br />go as planned. <br /> <br />M/S Swope/Mortensen: To cancel the March 28 Special P&R meeting. <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis was concerned about marketing and selling the idea of a <br />new Red Morton Center to the community and felt the Commission should be well <br />prepared prior to going to the City Council. Several of the Commissioners <br />felt it would be better to wait until staff ;s able to complete their work as <br />they have been charged to do by the City Council. <br /> <br />Motion passed.
