,

,-

Monthly Reports

-Commissioner Truscelli said she was impressed with all the monthly reports
and especially Chris O~iver1s report on the IntergenerationalProgram. She
announced a brunch will be held at the Veterans Senior Center on March 27 to
help raise funds for this program. She also announced the Native Daughters
of the Gold West will be holding an Arbor Day Ceremony on March 7 at the
Community Activities Building and invited all to attend.

-Commissioner Nordness said he appreciated Supervisor Kucala's quantitative
monthly report and also appreciated Director Griffiths's memo to staff
requesting this information be included in their monthly reports.

-Commissioner Swope said she liked the theme of the coloring contest
sponsored by the Cultural Commission referenced in Supervisor Hannon1s
report. She also liked the statistical information included in Supervisor
Kucala's report but needed further clarification on her figures. She
mentioned she was pleased Supervisor Wooten was able to provide information
showing the school district uses our facilities more than we use theirs.

Matters of COilisslon Interest

-Commissioner Berone said the City Council mentioned the formation of a youth
advisory council at the study session with the Commission earlier this month
and she has gathered information regarding this subject. She said she
contacted the cities of Foster City and San Mateo who have youth advisory
councils in order to see how they operate. In each city, the youth advisory
council is operated through the Park and Recreation Department and serves in
an advisory capacity to the City Council. She said these youth advisory
councils were general in nature and their purpose was to represent teen/youth
issues to the City Council. The cities she spoke to said the youth advisory
council is good for the students who are already interested in volunteering
and student government, but it is not something lIat riskll students tend to
join. Commissioner Berone asked if the Commission was interested in this
matter, she would continue to research this issue. Commissioner Nordness
suggested forming a committee to continue the research on a youth advisory
council and volunteered to be on the committee. The Commissioners discussed
speaking with Counciwoman LaBerge for some direction on this matter because
she had expressed an interest at the study session.

-Commissioner Berone inquired about the park assignments and asked that this
subject be included on the March agenda.

-Chairperson Davis requested that the implementation plans for the
Commission's current objectives be included on the March agenda.

-Director Griffiths suggested combining the public hearing and the March
Commission meeting. The Commissioners decided to meet at 6:15pm on Tuesday,
March 23 instead of 7:30pm Wednesday, March 24. The meeting will still be
held on Room 5 of the Community Activities Building. The public hearing will
begin at 7:30pm at a location to be determined.
