<br />Commissioner Howard suggested the advisor/facilitator be bi-lingual. <br /> <br />M/S Howard/Truscelli: To approve the draft letter to the Mayor and City <br />Council to show the Commission's support of the <br />creation of a youth advisory council. <br /> <br />Motion passed. <br />Committee Reports <br /> <br />-Commissioner Slusser will be preparing the application for the Commission1s <br />entry in the 4th of July Parade. Commissioners Howard and Truscelli <br />volunteered to obtain a car for the Commission to ride in for the parade. <br />This matter will be placed on the May agenda. <br /> <br />Monthly Reports <br /> <br />-Commissioner Truscelli mentioned Supervisor Chris 01iver1s report and that <br />the seniors help raise $1,400 for the Intergenerational Program throug~ a <br />brunch and dinner dance. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Slusser commended staff on the labor intensive installation of <br />the electronic scoreboards at the new Little League complex. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness mentioned Supervisor Jan Knight1s report on infectiou <br />disease training for her staff. He also mentioned Erlinda Tulioc1s report <br />and the decreased participation in some of her events. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Howard inquired about the condition of the gym floor at Red <br />Morton Center. Supervisor Blondino informed her there have been no injuries <br />or accidents recently. <br /> <br />Matters of Commission Interest <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness commended Superintendent Hartman and Director <br />Griffiths for their contribution to a CPRS information fund. He also brought <br />a copy of a newspaper article regarding the City of Palo Alto's effort to <br />prohibit drinking in their parks. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Howard announced the IISongs of Hopell music event to be held on <br />May 2 at 4:00pm at Messiah Lutheran Church. The event will benefit the <br />Redwood Family House and the Emergency Hunger Fund. Commissioner Howard alsc <br />announced the IIFestival of the Family" to be held on May 9 at Hoover Park <br />which will be sponsored by Hispanos Unidos. She mentioned she will be <br />walking in the IIHuman Racell on May 8 to benefit the Shelter Network of San <br />Mateo County and is accepting sponsors for her walk. <br /> <br />-Chairperson Davis commented on the City purchasing white fencing for the <br />Kiwanis/Mitchell Field complex which is used during Little League games. <br /> <br />Nita Spangler spoke about the 1940 origination of the 4th of July Parade by <br />the Redwood City Recreation Commission and the formation of the Peninsula <br />Celebration Association as a result of this event. Through the purchase and <br />sale of a piece of property, the PCA has accumulated a sizable endowment. <br />Mrs. Spangler said the City spends $10,000 for police protection for the 4th <br />of July Parade and thinks the City should not have to spend its funds for <br />this purpose. She feels we should think about approaching the PCA to obtain <br />their financial support for bond issues and other issues and that the <br />endowment funds should go back to the community. <br /> <br />
