and discussing it with SFWD, Mr. Aguilar noted that our permit request is
being viewed favorably pending completion of five requirements. He gave
each of the Commissioners a copy of his cover memo and the correspondence
received from SFWD for their review. He noted that three of the five
requirements from SFWD he has already begun work on. One of the
remaining requirements is that the City will have to pay a one-time non-
refundable permit fee of $500.00 to cover processing, inspection and other
administrative costs incurred by the SFWD. Mr. Aguilar said that no monies
have been budgeted for this project now or in the proposed FY94-95
operational budget. SFWD is also requiring that the City must agree to pay
50% of the annual property taxes being levied on the property in question,
with the exact amount to be determined at a later date. In addition, SFWD is
requiring written approval from the four property owners who live adjacent
to the property before the permit can be processed.

Mr. Aguilar said the plans for the dog exercise area include installation of
fencing on the three remaining sides using surplus chain link fencing located
at the Municipal Services Center. The installation of the fence is planned to
be done by Work Furlough crews. Commissioner Davis asked if the
agreement could be amended to add a clause that would allow planting of
grass on the property. He also asked if we should check with dog owners in
the community about the proposal. Chairperson Swope said she felt that after
our public hearing on this matter that we had already made a commitment to
opera te the dog exercise area on a trial basis. Director Griffiths told the
Commissioners that he felt we should think through all the annual costs
associa ted with this project.

The Commissioners spoke of the need to discuss this matter further once the
costs have been finalized. Commissioner Davis and the other
Commissioners thanked Mr. Aguilar for his long term effort on this project.

ITEM 2 - LET ZRIN G MEMORIAL UPO ATE

Commissioner N ordness announced that the dedication of the Letzring
Memorial took place on Saturday, April 16 prior to the opening day
ceremonies of the Redwood City National Little League. The new signage on
the scoreboard was unveiled as well as the memorial stone. He felt that the
community responded well to this project with their support. Commissioner
N ordness said the ceremony was very well done and the memorials were
done in an appropriate manner to memorialize Gerry Letzring.

He asked if the Commission could get an update from Supervisor Bill
Wooten regarding the monies collected and the final costs of the signage and
the memorial stone. Director Griffiths indicated an update would be
forthcoming from Recreation Supervisor Bill Wooten. Commissioner Davis
and the other Commissioners commended Commissioner Nordness for his
