The Commissioners discussed the 3" to 4" of space <br />behind the stone and suggested boxing off the area behind the stand to <br />eliminate children from climbing on it. An extra bicycle stand was also <br />requested for the site. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - RED MORTON CENTER UPDATE <br /> <br />Director Griffiths's reviewed the project update memo from Supervisor <br />Hannon which indicated that the project budget is $182,410.00 short and the <br />Commissioners again discussed the possibility of fund raising. Although <br />Commissioner Howard was unable to be at this evening's meeting, Director <br />Griffiths said she had suggested setting up a "Funding Raising Task Force" to <br />try and offset the budget shortfall and the Commissioners all agreed with this <br />concept. <br /> <br />Director Griffiths mentioned that Architect Mark Schatz has worked with <br />other groups in their fund raising activities for buildings and suggested that <br />the task force work closely with Mr. Schatz. Commissioners Howard, Davis <br />and Morton volunteered to be on this task force. <br /> <br />Chairperson Swope asked if the Commission could be provided with a "wish <br />list" of equipment and other items which they could assist in obtaining from <br />the community. Commissioner Nordness suggested having a brainstorming <br />session with the Park and Recreation Commission at the public meeting with <br />George Barbour as the facilitator. Director Griffiths said this matter will be <br />placed on the May agenda. Commissioner Davis suggested advising the City <br />Council of what the Park and Recreation Commission intends to do. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - 4TH OF JULY PARADE <br /> <br />The Commissioners discussed riding in the 4th of July Parade and the <br />availability of a vehicle. <br /> <br />M/S Davis/Morton: To continue the tradition of the Park and Recreation <br />Commission riding in the 4th of July Parade. <br /> <br />Motion passed. <br /> <br />Commissioner Nordness said he would check on the availability of getting a <br />fire truck for the Commission to use in the parade. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - BUDGET UPDATE <br /> <br />Director Griffiths discussed the department's budget and the status of the <br />City's budget. He explained that after review by the City Manager, the <br />department's budget was cut only approximately $60,000.00 as compared to <br />other City departments. The City is currently $1.6 million short but this is <br />before potential State cuts and cuts from the Governor's office. He said he <br /> <br />
