.,

)

i

i

Secretary Monroe gave the Commissioners an update on the planning for the
Halloween Dinner-Action to benefit the Red Morton Center. The planning
committee has met twice and have toured the Police Facility which is the site
for the event. The dinner/auction will be held on Thursday, October 26 and
tickets will be $75.00 per person and there will be only 120 tickets available for
sale. Commissioner Hughes will be speaking to Chief Bolanos regarding the
serving of wine during dinner. A sample ticket was given to each of the
Commissioners for their review. The committee's goal is to earn $10,000.00 to
purchase the sound system for the new Red Morton Center. In order to keep
the costs down, committee members have been contacting local restaurants to
obtain donated food for the event. Cost of the band for the event is estimated
at $150.00 and Commissioner Hughes has applied to the Cultural
Commission for funding and will present the proposal at their August 3
meeting.

M/S Davis/Slusser: To allow Commissioner Ginny Hughes make the
necessary applications to the appropriate agencies to
cond uct this event.

Motion passed.

ITEM 3 - BELMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT-SANDPIPER PARK

Director Griffiths announced Vanir Construction of San Jose was selected as
project manager for the Sandpiper Project. Vanir Construction finalized and
sent out the request for proposals (RFPs) to a large number of firms and a
mandatory meeting was held for all RFP applicants. Four firms were selected
as finalists and each made presentations on July 25 to a ten member selection
board. Gordon Chong and Associates of San Francisco was selected as the
architect for the project and we hope to have the architectural agreement
finalized by mid-August. The next phase for the project will be the selection
of the design team consisting of members of the Belmont School District,
community members and staff. Director Griffiths asked if any of the
Commissioners were interested in serving on the design team and
Commissioner Slusser indicated he would be interested in participating but
would not be available until after mid-November.

ITEM 4 - DEVELOPMENT OF FY95-96 COMMISSION WORKPLAN

The Commissioners discussed the workplan and decided to defer this matter
to the August agenda. The Commissioners are to bring all their ideas for the
workplan to the August meeting so it can be finalized.

COMMITTEE REPORTS/MONTHL Y REPORTS

There were no committee reports or monthly reports.
