pavers was recently sent into the manufacturer and we can continue to sell
additional pavers. Chairperson Swope explained that she, Civic Cultural
Commissioners Virginia Ball and Tamara Piulle, and Park and Recreation
Intern Julie Calleja visited a tile company in Sausalito to receive training on
how to do the tile process in-house. She announced the training session was
not successful and very disappointing. Julie Calleja has researched the tile
issue and has found that Nelda's Ceramics in Redwood City is able to handle
the tile process for us in a satisfactory manner and can also offer us a discount.
Nelda's Ceramics can provide each tile at a cost of $1.74 each including glaze
and firing. The tiles will be sold at a cost of $50.00 each to benefit the
fundraising efforts.

Chairperson Swope asked the Commissioners if they were willing to operate
a tile booth at various community events such as the Labor Day Festival at
the Senior Center, the Climate Best Fest on September 16-17, Raychem Health
and Fitness Fair, children's Halloween event, and Dia de la Raza event at
Hoover Park. Chairperson Swope sent around sign-up sheets for the
Commissioners to help operate the booth at each of the events.
Commissioner Davis agreed to update the tile flyer and Ira Ruskin will be
contacted to handle the press release.

Civic Cultural Commissioner Tamara Piulle said people can be given a choice
of alternatives for the tile. It does not have to be a handprint but could write
their name, or do a design on a tile to "personalize" it. Commissioner Slusser
felt sample tiles should be on display at the booth to help sell the product and
people should be given a limited number of variations for the tiles. He felt
pictures could be made for the tile flyer for people to refer to.

Chairperson Swope reported Supervisor Jan Knight needs to know what
in-kind donations have been received by October 15 so she can determine
what items she needs to order for the new facility. Commissioner Slusser
mentioned that many companies he has approached for in-kind donations
have required a SO13C status which we do not have. Commissioner Hughes
suggested obtaining a letter of endorsement from Honorary Chairpersons Pete
and Paula Dccelli to help with the donation effort and agreed to handle this
matter. Chairperson Swope said she is continuing to send out grant proposals
and asked the Commissioners to keep her abreast of what companies they
have contacted for donations.

ITEM 3 .. DEVELOPMENT OF FY95-96 COMMISSION WORKPLAN

Director Griffiths announced the Park and Recreation Commission will be
presenting their workplan at the October 2 City Council meeting. The
Commissioners discussed what items they would like to incorporate in their
FY95-96 Workplan and they decided on the following items:

'; .

"
