- .
..

Park & Recreation Commission
Minutes of April 24, 1996" 6

Page 4

The Commissioners discussed ways to thank the many people who worked
on the Red Morton Center project. Suggestions included a plaque and a
personal letter to the employee with copies to their supervisor and personnel
file. Commissioner Hughes suggested nominating' the person for the
Rotary's employee of the month program. Chairperson Truscelli asked
Commissioner Swope if she could write the thank you letters on behalf of the
Commission and Commissioner Davis offered to review the draft letters.

Commissioner Swope suggested having a "thank you" party for everyone
who worked on the project. It was also suggested having a one year
anniversary party for the Center that could be a fundraiser too.

ITEM 5 - COMMISSION WORKPLAN REVIEW

The Commissioners discussed the budget process and what part the
Commission plays in the process. Superintendent Seleznow said he would
bring a summary sheet of the two year budget to the Commissioners for their

.

reVIew.

Superintendent Seleznow explained City ordinances are being updated and
two items in particular need to be reviewed by the Commission. One item is
the alcohol in the parks ordinance which has been difficult for the Police
Department to enforce because it says "consumption" rather than
"possession". The other ordinance involves Heritage Trees/Tree
Preservation. Since the maintenance of City trees was transferred to the
Public Works Services Department several years ago, our department no
longer is involved in this matter. Superintendent Seleznow suggested
putting these items on the May agenda for further discussion and
recommendation to City Council. The Commissioners were each provided
with a copy of all pertinent City ordinances for their review.

COMMrrrEE REPORTS

There were no committee reports.

MONTHLY REPORTS

There wer,e no monthly reports.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

-Commissioner Davis announced there will be celebration for George
Blondino for his 35 years of service to Little League on June 2 at 12:30pm at
