<br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of October 24, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />suggested a water feature at Spinas Park, Spinas Park swing set, and the <br />Windmill Project as possible funding ideas. Commissioner Truscelli suggested <br />using the funds for additional parking at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br />to help increase the number of bingo participants and revenue to the Center. <br /> <br />M/S LaBerge/Walsh: To recommend partial funding of a water <br />feature at Spinas Park. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - DISCUSSION OF NEIGHBORHOOD SURVEY RESULTS <br /> <br />Director Centeno explained the purpose of the neighborhood survey and how <br />the survey was completed. The information gathered becomes part of the <br />ICMA Performance Measures that the City participates in. Director Centeno <br />stated the results show that what we do as a department has an impact in <br />the community. She spoke about increases in user attendance and areas of <br />the City which have the highest attendance figures. A consultant will be <br />doing some follow-up questions with those citizens who rated us fair to poor <br />to see what it would take to move them to an excellent rating. Director <br />Centeno explained that identity may be an issue for many of our users who <br />may not realize they are participating in a departmental program due to its <br />location in other facilities or schools. She will get back to the Commission <br />when the follow-up results are known. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - SET DATE FOR COMMISSION STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />Chairperson Joseph requested that the Commission have a study session on <br />either Saturday, November 3 or Saturday, December 1. The purpose of the <br />study session would be for the Commission to redefine its goals and <br />brainstorm projects and priorities. Sandpiper Community Center was <br />suggested as possible location. November 3 is the same date as the <br />dedication of Little River Park and the Citywide Clean-Up. December 1 is the <br />date of the 'Tis the Season program in downtown. Secretary Monroe will <br />contact each Commissioner to schedule the best date for the meeting. The <br />next regular Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28 <br />at the CAB. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - REPORT ON REDWOOD CITY 2020 SURVEY <br /> <br />Chairperson Joseph reported that she attended a meeting which presented <br />survey results of a Redwood City youth mapping study of middle school <br />students by the John Gardener Center at Stanford. The survey suggested <br />having our Youth Advisory Committee partner with the group to help with <br />teens needs. The Commissioners requested copies of the report for their <br />review. It was suggested that the Gardener Center partner with the Youth <br />and Teen Advisory group. Director Centeno felt there might be a logistics <br /> <br />.. <br />
