<br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of February 26,2003 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />-Pet Parade <br />Superintendent Hover reported that he has attended two meetings regarding the Pet <br />Parade, and that the date is confinned for Saturday, April 5. There is a new location for <br />event and announced it will be held behind the Community Activities Building. <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover also reported that there will be four contest areas: Best Costume, <br />Best Team Costume, Pet-Owner Look-A-Like, and Most Unusual Pet. Superintendent <br />Hover and Superintendent Beth still have not decided which category they will enter this <br />year. A new contest is also added - Best Trick. Publicity will be out soon via flyers to <br />the community and there is already an ad in the Spring Activities Guide. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - DISCUSSION OF PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />CALENDAR AND FUTURE EVENTS <br /> <br />Added events include: <br />March 1 st - Arbor Day celebration at the Veteran's Memorial Senior Center at 2:00pm <br />March 8th - Women's History Month ttom 2-5 pm at the Veterans Memorial Senior <br />Center <br />March 15th - Skate Park Grand Opening at 1 0:00am <br />March 29th - Redwood City's 135th birthday celebration <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE AND TIMELINE <br /> <br />Director Centeno began the discussion by refening to the 6 page Executive Summary that <br />was included in the Commissioner packets. She reviewed the working definition of our <br />mission: "Creating Community Through People, Parks and Programs", along with the <br />descriptors that were included in the summary. She also reviewed the proposed schedule <br />that was discussed at the last Commission meeting: <br /> <br />February: Draft Plan to the Parks and Recreation Commission <br />March: Presentations to Boards and Commissions and incorporate into Final Draft <br />April: City Council Study Session <br /> <br />As reported, there are changes with the timeline. Instead of the draft, Director Centeno <br />completed the Executive Summary. . <br /> <br />Director Centeno asked questions regarding the Draft Executive Summary: <br />1) What is positive? /What is negative? <br />2) Did we miss anything? <br />3) Action Steps - Commission/Staff? <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis asked, "Do we see a process of quantified goals over time?" He <br />also suggested that there would need to be a series of choices (obtainable) goals for the <br />City. Commissioner Davis also felt that this should grow out of the Commission then go <br /> <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />
