<br />1 <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of July 23, 2003 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - RECYCLED WATER PROGRAM OVERVIEW <br /> <br />Chairperson Walsh stated he asked staff for an update on the City's recycled <br />water program and the Commissioners were provided with copies of <br />information from the City IS website. Superintendent Hover noted that in <br />20011 the City saved 4.5 million gallons of water during a 6 month period by <br />using recycled water. He confirmed that our department uses recycled water <br />on mediansl islands and other area which are non-recreational areas and are <br />not used by the public. We have 146 acres of parks and we use 3% of the <br />total City water consumption. The City Council will be discussing this topic at <br />their July 29 meeting and making a determination to approve a recycled <br />water use program for the City. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE AND TIMELINE <br /> <br />Director Centeno announced staff will be presenting a draft document at the <br />August Commission meeting. Because we are looking for public input on the <br />documentl she discussed inviting PACT members and all board and, <br />commission members as well as having publicity to advertise the meeting to <br />the general public. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - ADOPT -A-PARK PROGRAM <br /> <br />Commissioner Joseph requested forming a sub-committee to set some goals <br />. and expectations to continue the Adopt-A-Park program. She would also like <br />. to invite the Teen Advisory Board to participate on the sub-committee. <br />Commissioner Davis suggested finding out why various groups have dropped <br />from the Adopt-A-Park program and why other groups have remained active. <br />Commissioner Yapp volunteered to work with Commissioner Joseph on this <br />sub ~ com mitt e e . <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - STAFF UPDATES <br /> <br />-Spinas Park . . <br />Superintendent Hover reported that the project broke ground on July 22 and <br />that the expected completion date is November 2003. <br /> <br />-Skate Park <br />Commissioner Joseph reported she received a call from Sue Keeley of the <br />Roy Cloud After School Day Carel who visited the skate park on five <br />consecutive Wednesdays and said only a few people were wearing helmets. <br />Ms. Keeley said she spoke to a police officer at the site who would not help <br />enforce the helmet requirement. Commissioner Joseph expressed her <br />concern about people getting injured at the skate park due to lack of <br />helmets. She wondered if something happensl are we going to change our. <br />position. and felt we should be proactive rather than reactive. Commissioner <br />Davis felt if the park has been properly signed, then it is at the "user's <br /> <br /> <br />.; ;. .. <br /> <br />
