<br />~ <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of April 28, 2004 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Nancy Anderson - limit rental to Redwood City residents who live within a <br />certain radius of the community center <br />Merrily Robinson - has rented Senior Center previously for a party and <br />needed all 6 hours so not in support of reducing rental times; need to <br />perform security "sweep" of facility after parties; continue to allow <br />champagne; rentals should be open to all Redwood City residents regardless <br />of where they live in the city; heard some distressing racial overtones from <br />some of residents. <br />David Walter - not a problem with party inside facility; once a party gets <br />outside building, problems occur; have staff get party-goers out of parking <br />lot to disburse crowd. <br />Angelica Valencia - tell renters not to have their guests wear gang colors; <br />make renters responsible for their guests <br />Violeta Ortega - wants City to rent to all Redwood City residents; require <br />security; have City staff supervising facility wear a uniform <br />Ella Fitzpatrick - allow alcohol at events; has called Police on teen dances <br />at Red Morton Center; observed that many City staff supervising teen dances <br />are same age as participants; suggested that staff should be 30 years or <br />older to supervise; noted she will not take her young son to skate park due <br />to foul language used by skateboarders <br />Bill Newell - never wants this to happen again; son attended teen dances <br />at Red Morton and thanked Recreation Supervisor Mark Yasuda for this work <br />with teens; wants us to think creatively in budget crisis; building should be <br />accessed by everyone; problem is gangs, not our policies; revisit City's <br />alcohol policy <br />Ira Ruskin - on behalf of Council, expressed sympathy to family of victim; <br />very traumatic event in Redwood City; thanked everyone for coming this <br />evening <br />Lyndley Garner - do not greatly alter our rental policies <br />Roger Bowie - review structure of rental contracts; establish strict <br />guidelines and enforce them; building should be open to all; teen dances are <br />necessary; agreed with suggestion to have renters forfeit their deposit if <br />Police are called <br /> <br />-Commission Discussion <br />Each of the Commissioners thanked the audience for coming, expressed <br />sympathy to family, and addressed the audience with their comments: <br />Davis - questioned if there was a connection between alcohol and incident at <br />the CAB; encouraged citizens to notify the Park and Recreation Commission <br />when there is a problem so it can be resolved. <br />Truscelli - thanked everyone for coming <br />Joseph - thanked everyone for their suggestions and for communicating <br />with the Commission on issues <br />Morton - expressed his desire to get more involved with his neighborhood <br />association; Roosevelt Neighborhood Association will meet on April 29 at <br />7:00pm at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. <br /> <br /> <br />
