She stated that she is not convinced that Stanford will comply with <br />the community needs and she wants to be sure that there is clear assurance that <br />Stanford will listen to the needs and comply. She further stated that culturally <br />competent services should be proYided and that a productive and effective line of <br />communication with labor and the community is in order. She stated that EI <br />Concillio would propose that a body be created for that purpose to oyersee not <br />only the planning process but the ongoing success and promotion of good, strong <br />community relations and labor relations. <br /> <br />Christine Walters stated that her partner is an employee of Stanford and they are <br />both residents of Redwood City. She echoed the concerns of her fellow residents <br />about open and transparent process of community input. She further announced a <br />town hall meeting and community forum featuring guest panelists, community <br />organizations, residents and elected officials to further air issues surrounding this <br />expansion project. The forum will be held at 6:00 p.m. on November 17 at the Fair <br />Oaks Community Center. <br /> <br />Cassiopeia Kitchens stated that she is a resident and attends Canada College <br />and she expressed her opinion that the City Council should demand a full <br />environmental impact report so that the environmental interests of the community <br />are protected. <br /> <br />Janet Borgens, representing the Friendly Acres Neighborhood Association, stated <br />that the organization has been in talks regarding the projects for some time and <br />there are some concerns. She stated that parking is a concern and Stanford is <br />known for charging to park which encourages parking into the neighborhood. <br />Another issue is that an estimate of 600 jobs is projected for the site with <br />approximately 500 already held by Stanford employees. She stated that the <br />organization would like to see the potentially 100 new jobs be filled by Redwood <br />City residents. She also stated the biohazard issue since the location is in a flood <br />area and that these concerns have been brought forward and that there is <br />communication occurring. <br /> <br />Council Members stated the need for the organization to discuss with Stanford the <br />impact of housing with new employees or transfer of employees into the area. The <br />point was made that communities without jobs do not function well and that the <br />opportunity to share the concerns and work together will be available. <br /> <br />Mayor Ira stated that the town hall meeting is being sponsored by EI Concillio of <br />San Mateo County, San Mateo County Supervisor Rose Jacobs-Gibson and SEIU <br />Local 715. <br /> <br />Principal Planner Passanisi was asked and stated the process begins with an <br />environmental assessment to see what any potential impacts might be.
