The RFP closed on January 22, with two proposals submitted. The RCIA board is
reviewing the proposals and is expected to hold interviews mid-February. Selection of the
consultant is expected by the end of February.
In December, staff launched a three-year pilot project with Streetline to provide real-time
on -street parking data for the entire downtown area. This data will inform future
investments to manage downtown parking. The system is now collecting data to populate
its tracking algorithms, which will be available to the public once completed. Staff is
considering additional pilots for real-time data in the off-street parking lots. Agreements
are being negotiated and should be executed by March 2018.
Parks
Linden Park reconstruction was completed at the end of June 2017. Originally built in
1971, the park was torn down in 2010 during the San Francisco Public Utilities
Commission's water pipeline upgrade and staff had to obtain new permits for
reconstruction. Boasting a butterfly theme, caterpillar benches, and special willow art huts
for play, the City recently won a State Award for best park design for Linden Park.
A major ongoing project is design and construction of the Magical Bridge Playground.
The first phase of the project, moving a PG&E transformer out of the playground area,
was initiated in October and is expected to be completed in March. The Armory parking
lot will also be expanded during this time to add 80 new parking spaces next to the
proposed playground. Staff anticipate releasing the construction bid for the playground
in February.
Additionally, the Veterans Memorial Senior Center -YMCA Project is currently in the
master planning phase. A series of community design meetings took place in January
and February, with nearly 150 people in attendance. Other workshops and community
engagement events are planned through May to allow for multiple opportunities for the
community to provide feedback. The conceptual plan will be presented to City Council in
March with a final plan anticipated for City Council consideration in May.
Improvements were recently completed for the National Guard Armory building including
re -carpeting, painting, replacement of windows, and installation of a new sport court. The
synthetic turf replacement at Sandpiper and Marlin fields is complete and both fields are
open.
