ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />Develop and sustain a thriving local business environment that contributes to the community's economic <br />well-being and quality of life. <br />GOALS <br />Expand business outreach programs and develop strategies to support <br />small and locally -owned businesses and high sales tax generating <br />businesses <br />Bring new uses to the downtown district to fill vacant tenant spots <br />Explore opportunities for new retail businesses to locate in Redwood <br />City <br />Expand implementation of Partnership Redwood City community <br />benefits program <br />Establish a Sidewalk Cafe Extension Ordinance <br />Develop cannabis related regulations <br />UPDATE <br />City staff is working on the formation of the Retail Task force that will <br />begin meeting in March to create a retail vision for downtown. A report <br />will be presented to the City Council on August 27. In addition, City staff is <br />working with the Chamber of Commerce on the formation of a small <br />business committee. Ongoing outreach efforts are underway with the car <br />dealerships to ensure this high sales tax -generating industry remains <br />strong in Redwood City. <br />Forming the Retail Task Force will create the vision for the retail industry of <br />downtown. City staff is working with property owners to fill vacancies that <br />exist. Several new businesses are on track to open in the coming year. <br />City staff is working with developers to make connections to large property <br />owners to redevelop underutilized sites and to include additional <br />retail/sales tax generating uses. <br />This is an ongoing effort. Recent revisions to the Partnership Redwood City <br />webpage provides benefits of the program to the Redwood City <br />community. In the fall of 2017, City staff provided a Council update on <br />Partnership Redwood City and the benefits seen so far from the program. <br />This is an ongoing initiative. The pilot program was extremely successful <br />with more demand than spaces available.
