GOALS <br />PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Protect and promote community well-being and safety, using a broad and proactive approach to <br />achieve a high quality of life for Redwood City's residents, businesses and visitors. <br />Increase participation in the Fire Safety First Program, which supports <br />installation of fire sprinklers and preservation of affordable housing. <br />Purchase four fire engines <br />Develop a data driven rolling five-year forecast on Fire Department Service <br />delivery <br />Provide tactical Spanish training for First Responders <br />Conduct one Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class <br />Continue the Junior Fire Academy <br />UPDATE <br />This effort is in progress, though the program has been challenging to <br />implement. City staff will provide an update later this spring. <br />The purchase of four fire engines is in progress. <br />This goal is complete. <br />The first session that involved 12 staff members is complete. The <br />second session is scheduled for spring of 2018 with an additional 12 <br />staff members trained. <br />One CERT class is complete. City staff is offering another CERT class <br />this spring. <br />This is complete for 2017. City staff will offer the program on an <br />annual basis. <br />Make progress on various Capital Improvement Program Projects: Station 9 Station 9 Remodel is in progress; Fire Station Alerting Upgrade is in <br />Remodel, Fire Station Alerting Upgrade, Station 12 replacement, new progress; the Station 12 replacement is currently on hold; a new <br />training center/tower, and Fire stations diesel exhaust recovery system <br />replacement <br />Maintain active leadership of Project SAFE to address blight and public <br />safety concerns at Sequoia Station and the adjacent transit hub <br />Elevate the graduation level in Crisis Intervention Training to 75% of line <br />police officers <br />Introduce a de-escalation training to all sworn and non -sworn police <br />personnel <br />training center/tower is in progress; and the fire stations diesel <br />exhaust recovery system replacement is in progress. <br />This ongoing initiative will continue. <br />City staff anticipates scheduling three training sessions later in 2018 <br />with 9-12 officers and dispatchers trained by the end of 2018. <br />Completed in November 2017. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVES AND GOALS 15 1 P a g e <br />low <br />N <br />
