IO, A-z <br />It is the Police Chief's recommendation that this year's award be dedicated to the procurement of law <br />enforcement related equipment and training. 8ome items that we may con.sider purchasing are anti- <br />terrorism, bio-chemical protective clothing, and equipment for personnel. <br /> <br />For the past six years, the police department has also received a Citizens Option for Public Safety <br />(OOPS) Grant from the State of California. For the past three years, the department has dedicated <br />OOP8 funds to the salaries and benefits of the new police officer positions approved by the City <br />Oouncil pursuant to the staffing study of 1997. The department anticipates funding for COPS to <br />continue and expects to receive the 2002 COPS grant later this year. Once these funds are received, <br />it will be proposed by the Police Chief to continue to dedicate the funds to the salaries and benefits of <br />the new police officer positions pursuant to the staffing study. <br /> <br />Alternatives <br />1. Accept the Police Chiefs recommendation that this year's LLEBG award be dedicated to <br /> salaries and the procurement of law enforcement related equipment. <br /> <br />2. Return the funds to the Bureau of Justice Assistance. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The LLEBG Grant requires a cas:: matc~ , ;he amount of $7,220. Interest derived from the award <br />does not have to be matched, but cannot ue used to match the federal award. A budget adjustment <br />addressing the cash match requirement will be addressed in the mid-year budget. <br /> <br />Attachment <br /> 1.
