<br /> 5 <br /> <br />Committee Member Montalvo stated she would like to see a copy of the new wellness report. <br /> <br />Ms. Stankiewicz stated she would make sure the committee got a copy of that report. <br /> <br />El Centro de Libertad/Freedom Center <br /> <br />Michael Stoll, Chief Executive Officer with the Freedom Center, gave a presentation on their <br />Substance Use Disorder for Urban Youth and Adults project. He expressed the grave issue of <br />substance abuse and explained how the Freedom Center works to combat this issue in <br />Redwood City. <br /> <br />Committee Member Montalvo asked for statistics about how many people they are serving in <br />Redwood City. <br /> <br />Mr. Stoll provided some numbers of how many people they are serving in Redwood City and <br />San Mateo County. <br /> <br />There was a discussion about how the legalization of marijuana will impact the work of the <br />Freedom Center. <br /> <br />Committee Member Recht asked how they are able to best target those in need of treatment. <br /> <br />Mr. Stoll stated that they cannot force people into the program, so they cannot go out and <br />wrangle up those who need help. <br /> <br />Committee Member Montalvo asked why they don’t go to more schools in the area. <br /> <br />Mr. Stoll stated that they do not have enough staff, however, they recently revamped their <br />prevention education program. He stated that last year was their pilot program and it went <br />really well so they are rolling it out in more schools. <br /> <br />Committee Member Hiester asked how the budget breaks down across the three different <br />initiatives. <br /> <br />Mr. Stoll stated he wasn’t sure. <br /> <br />Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. <br /> <br />Marilyn Baker-Venturini, Director of Meals on Wheels for Peninsula Volunteers, gave a <br />presentation on behalf of Peninsula Volunteers. She stated that they are requesting <br />additional funding for their Meals on Wheels program. <br /> <br />Committee Member Becker asked for clarification on the numbers of people they serve. <br /> <br />Ms. Baker-Venturini stated that they narrowed down the number of people to ensure that the <br />money provided by the city is going to better use. She stated they are expecting this year to <br />be similar in size to last year. <br />
