The purpose of the Public Art Master Vision is to provide aesthetic direction to the
ongoing public art activities in Redwood City, and to offer practical tools and
recommendations to help realize this vision. One long-term goal for the next 20 years is
to create an outdoor museum throughout the City, comprised of talented artists from
Redwood City and the Bay Area, complemented by national and international artists.
This growing art collection will be on view to the public at all times, free of admission. By
supporting, refining, and elevating Redwood City’s Public Art program, the plan can
increase community and visitor engagement with the culture of the City and establish
Redwood City as a beacon of creativity, support, dialogue, and diversity. The Public Art
Master Vision is meant to be a living document which evolves to meet the changing
needs of the Redwood City community.

Public Engagement
For nearly a year, Fung Collaboratives gathered community and stakeholder input by
attending numerous meetings, conducting individual and group interviews, conducting
public art presentations, hosting an expert panel discussion, hosted a field trip to view
the San Francisco Art Commission’s public art collections at the SFO Airport, and
delivered a general public survey where we received over 300 responses. Additionally,
a steering committee made up of local artists, two Civic Cultural Commissioners, and
community members, was organized and provided feedback on the process and the
first drafts of the Public Art Master Vision. The Civic Cultural Commission also provided
feedback on the Vision document, and the consultant incorporated this feedback.

Recommendations
The Public Art Master Vision provides a number of recommendations; presents an
“Action Plan” segmented into 1-3 years; 3-6 years; and 6-9 years; details proper artist
Requests for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/P) Commissioning process; Art Acquisition
process; identifies top iconic visible locations for public art; and top budget friendly
locations for public art.

Recommendations over a nine-year period include:

1.
