LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES
TECHNOLOGY
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A new general CIP project consolidates previously funded projects 70126
(Library Public Computers Conversion), 75609 (Main Library Network
Enhancement), 75587 (Network Switches), 75588 (PC Mgmt Software),
75617 (PLS Automated Sorting), and 75589 (Redwood Shores Camera).
The majority of work on these prior projects has been completed,
although the upgrade of the network cabling in the Downtown Library is
currently underway. New requests include replacement of the ten self‐
checkout machines at 4 libraries which were purchased in 2011 and are
nearing end of life, and replacement of aging public printers and the
plotter used by the graphic designer. Installation of self‐check machines
increased efficiency by using automation to allow business to grow
significantly without adding staff, and sustaining this efficiency requires
periodic equipment upgrades.
PROJECT BENEFITS
Improved customer experience
Enhanced security of transactions
Increased staff efficiency and reduces need for additional staff
Reduced maintenance costs on equipment nearing end of life
PROJECT STATUS
The majority of work on these prior projects has been completed, although the upgrade of the network cabling in the
Downtown Library is currently underway.
