Three traffic calming meetings have been held with neighbors surrounding the
project site for staff to gain a better understanding of traffic conditions, identify
priority areas, to share effective traffic calming tools, and to understand what
measures neighbors would like to see. The meetings were held on March 1,
March 22, and April 26.

· Building Design and Materiality: The February 22 meeting showcased the most
detailed building renderings to date. Attendees expressed appreciation for the
new aesthetic, which the project team is calling “Bay Region Style,” as well as
the permeability of the facilities and each building’s integration and flow with the
park. Lastly, there was universal agreement from the attendees for keeping
building height and scale appropriate for the neighborhood.

· Improved Intra-Park Circulation: Acknowledging it is still an early concept, the
idea of using electric carts to bolster park circulation, especially for seniors, was
very popular. Attendees agreed it would allow for more parking flexibility and
increased utilization of the nearby SamTrans stop while providing a good
alternative for those needing physical assistance.

· Generous Building Set-Back: Attendees expressed appreciation for plans to
maximize green space and maintain the large trees along Madison Street, and
that the modest building footprints eliminated encroachment on Red Morton Park.

· The pedestrian promenade: Separate from the reclaimed green space around
the facilities, further programming detail of the pedestrian promenade received
positive feedback from attendees. Another theme discussed was the importance
of proper lighting as necessary for safety and nighttime enjoyment.

· Veterans: There was continued discussion about ensuring the project properly
honors veterans. Participants requested retaining “Veterans Memorial” as the
building name. Staff have met with representatives from a number of Veterans
groups who utilize the current VMSC, and we have gained consensus by calling
the future facility the “Veterans Memorial Building/Senior Center”. Staff and the
ELS consultant team have met with the Veteran representatives numerous times
and are working together on detailed veterans displays throughout the facility.

· Holistic park-wide transportation: As noted, there was much support for the idea
of free electric shuttle service both around the park and to/from points of interest
in Redwood City. Community members understood it required considerable
study, but as a concept it was quite popular. There were also requests to refocus
8.A. - Page 6
