RESOLUTION 14684 OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY APPROVING THE FIRST
AMENDED AND RESTATED JOINT EXERCISE OF POWERS AGREEMENT FOR THE
SOUTH BAYSIDE WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote. (304) MINUTE ORDER 05 -250
C. Solid Waste Collections Rate Increase
Director of Finance and Financial Planning Ponty stated that the increase is the
first since 2001 and was discussed and reviewed by the Utilities Committee in
October. He stated that the primary factor in the increase is higher employee costs
and further explained the background on this recommendation.
Council questions ensued regarding customer notification and community
outreach. Comments included thanks to the Utilities Committee and that this is a
highly regulated franchise and that the residents are getting the level of service
that they have requested. The rate increase is a direct reflection of that level of
service except that the increase is less as a result of the Board's negotiations and
work.
There was no public comment.
Recommendation:
M/S Foust/Howard to approve an 8.1 % rate increase effective February 20, 2006.
For typical residential customers who have one 32- gallon container picked up once
a week, the increase will amount to $1.27 per month.
