8.A. - Page 3 Intersection #3: Valota Road at Madison Avenue - Diagrams not available In light an August 15, 2018 automobile collision at the intersection of Valota and Madison, neighborhood workshop participants added this intersection to their priority list. The following traffic calming measures are being considered for this intersection: • Traffic circle o Smaller than the one at Hudson/Madison to accommodate Fire Department vehicles (staff have not yet tested turn templates to determine dimensions) o Likely no room for curb extensions due to smaller intersection than Hudson/Madison o Provides design consistency with Vera/Valota and Hudson/Madison o Planninq level cost estimate ranqe: $40,000 - $80,000 • Raised crosswalk o Intersection lacks curb ramps now, which a raised crosswalk would address o Costs can vary dramatically due to drainage, accessibility needs, utility impacts o Planninq level cost estimate range: $30,000 - $110,000 At the last planned community meeting on September 27, the consultant team will present potential traffic calming improvements for the remaining areas of concern along Madison Avenue. Once a consensus is reached by the community on those potential improvements and locations, they will be incorporated into the CEQA analysis and Phase I improvement plans. During the community meetings, some neighborhood residents also expressed an interest in additional improvements on Roosevelt Avenue, at the intersection of Jefferson and Valota, and on Valota, between Vera and Roosevelt. While not included in the current traffic study, concerns regarding these intersections could be addressed through future projects: • Roosevelt Avenue is the top ranked traffic calming project and planning for improvements will begin this fiscal year. • The Citywide Transportation Plan included a "Jefferson Avenue Complete Street Corridor Study" as a Tier 1 (Neighborhood Priority) project, but it has not been funded yet. The intersection of Jefferson and Valota would be addressed in the context of the corridor as a whole.
