4 - I would like to see regional action on this topic, but individual cities can lead the way
41 would much prefer for the federal government to address climate change, but it's not going
to and it's a huge problem, so i will grumpily admit that some action is much better then none.
5) We are at the very nexus of Silicon Valley - we should totally be taking a leadership role in
both reducing our carbon footprint and energy conservation! We have no excuse not to do so
just b/c we are a smaller city, let's be a beacon of how-to DIY for other small cities - we have
heaps of tech know-how and tech brains on our side to figure this out!! We can learn from
existing data and state recommendations and federal policies. Plus it will save our cash-
strapped city $$ in the long run!! It's a win win if we address this now. We're idiotic dinosaurs in
the middle of High Tech Silicon Valley if we don't. Let's not look stupid next to Palo Alto. Let's
show them all the way and be a great example!! Redwood City PROUD!!
5 - we're a rich region, it's utterly irresponsible to place profit over the environment. For those
who can't afford to bankroll their own sustainability, there should be help, not fossil fuels, to
turn to.
5. Redwood City is impacted by sea level rise and extreme heat, 2 of the most visible effects of
climate change. A recent study found San Mateo County the most vulnerable in the state to
rising sea levels. The city, residents, county, state need to work collaboratively on near and long
term plans to protect our community and infrastructure (roads, levees, wastewater treatment
plants, transmission towers, homes, etc). Key findings of California's most recent climate
assessment - http://www.climateassessment.ca.gov/state%verview/
5 BUILD MORE HOUSING AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
I think every community has to assume some responsibility to change. Climate change is
reality and we all have To be part of change
5 change starts at home. We can make a difference with small steps.
5. Climate change is the biggest risk we all face. RWC has a responsibility to act.
5 support, with the footnote that the plan and its stated goals is not used by attempts to justify
"everything under the sun", by special interests, that attempt to subvert its actual and
important goals to their own narrow (and profit -based motives).
