Besides the refurbishment of cultural facilities, the San Jose
Redevelopment Agency has also been funding a program called Populus for the past two
years. Supporting
Montalvo is one of the best ways to support many of the businesses, especially the
restaurants. Prior examples of other assistance the Agency has provided to businesses
include signage for businesses on the closed portion of Middlefield Road, advertisements
in local newspapers encouraging people to come Downtown during construction, and the
sponsorship of special events such as Victorian Days and Hometown Holidays. In terms of
impact, the Montalvo shows attract more people into the Downtown than all of these other
efforts combined.
Fiscal Impact
The total cost to the Agency would be $30,000 allocated from the Redevelopment
Agency's economic development budget.
